Who's won what?

PKR Student Final 2007

London's exclusive members only 'Century Club' was the venue for this years live student final. Each of the finalists was invited to bring three friends so there was plenty of atmosphere when the poker kicked off just after 8pm. Early play was extremely tight and as the free beer for the crowd was enjoyed, so the friendly rivalries between the different universities became more vocal.

With starting stacks of 5,000 chips and blinds starting at 25-50 with 20 min levels it took two hours for the first man to be knocked out. As with all poker, the night saw some cruel bad beats, the harshest being Rhys Davies final hand. All in before the flop Rhys held pocket aces against Jakes AK. The flop didn't help anyone but a king on the turn and again on the river saw the end of poor Rhys.

Long time chip leader Jamie Goodman was knocked out in third place just before midnight and the heads up battle lasted less than five minutes. In the end it was Ashley Akbari from Cardiff University who took first place when his A-8 held up against Jake Locke's J-10 and he took the final pot of the evening. As you can see from the photos below Ashley was understandably pleased!

PKR Student Final

Congratulations to the following ten players who have made it through to the grand final on the 18th June 2007. The final is being held at London's exclusive Century Club with the finalists friends invited to cheer them on and drink on us!

The winner will take away a prize package worth a whopping $15,000 including a seat to an EPT event with 3 friends (flights, accommodation and spending money on PKR!), a 32" HD Ready TV, a next gen games console and a Ipod and docking station. There's also $1500 in prize money going to losing finalists.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 18

The final week of the qualifying stages in the PKR Student Poker Tour saw 'Rhysd007' from Cardiff University jump to the top of the leaderboard and guarantee himself a semi-final seat on the 22nd May. Also pushing themselves up the leaderboard with strong finishes were 'Sayf00' 'JamBGo' and 'murray'. It was an impressive first night playing on the Student Tour for 'Hiidalgo' from Northumbria University, winning $135 and a semi-final seat at his first attempt. The second semi-final seat went to Leed's 'Versastyle'.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 17

Well, the next few weeks will be super busy as the PKR Student Poker Tour live events kick off around the country. So far we've been to the University of Southampton, De Montfort and Nottingham, with Imperial College and Bath to round out this week. Check out the live events page to see how they fared, and to see when PKR is coming to YOUR uni.

Our two newest semi-finalists were 'Danpearson' who grabbed the top spot and the $135 prize and a newcomer to the leaderboard , 'itsnotthecards' who took home second place. Nothing has shaken last week's leaders - 'ConcreteCol' and 'XBen7' from their perch, but with five semi-final seats available, there is still everything to play for in the last few tournaments.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 16

There's been a lot of activity on the leaderboard after this weeks PKR Student Poker Tour event - eight of the final table players were previously in the top half of the leaderboard.

Our long time leader 'ConcreteCol' from Loughborough University now has company at the top after 'XBen7' from Cardiff uni finished in fourth place. With five semi-final seats going to the top placed leaderboard finishers who haven't already won their seat 'tomlufbra', 'Rhysd007', 'murray', 'titch1234' and 'happynick' are currently sitting pretty with three more tournaments to play.

The two semi-final seats up for grabs on Tuesday night went to 'Wooley7' studying at the University of Newcastle who stole first place and 'wisesi' from the University of Bath who fought back admirably for second place.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 15

This week's Student Poker event saw 'hjmorgstew' from Oxford University claim a semi-final seat at the first attempt in addition to $135 for his first place finish. It was also a good night for the University of Leed's 'Tom115' whose steady play saw him home for the second semi-final place. Another solid performance from 'tomlufbra' saw him jump two places on the leaderboard to second place.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 14

Tuesday night's competition was a big one, with $1000 and 4 semi-final seats up for grabs! Taking top spot and $270 was 'lewis2305', with 'pagey44' hot on his heels for $155 and second place. Also ending up with a spot in the semi was 'tincup1119' and a new one to the leaderboard, 'fishnuts85'. Special mention to 'JamBGo', who leapfrogged to #2 in the leaderboard and earned himself a semi-final seat at the same time.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 11

The host of Nottingham University players who have recently joined PKR Student once again had a good showing in Tuesday night's freeroll. Several Nottingham players made the money and one of their players, 'statto86' took down first place a seat in the semi-final and $135. However, 'chalkie888' from Swansea's Institute of HE can consider himself unlucky to finish second after 'Statto86' hit runner, runner to complete an unlikely straight and knock him out. There was at least the consolation of a seat in the all important semi-final for 'chalkie888' along with $77.50. With 225 entrants it was the largest showing yet as the PKR Student Tour continues to grow.

With up to 18 $500 live poker nights to be hosted at universities around the country up for grabs (with a semi-final seat available to the winner) time is running out to get your university up to the required number of signups. Here is the current list of universities with the most signups:

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 10

Last week saw PKR Student hosting two live poker events. The first was for the winner of the "ultimate home game" competition, Kieran from The University of Hertfordshire. Cambridge University also hosted a charity poker night which we added our support to - check out the poker events section for more details and photo's of the events.

This Tuesday's freeroll saw Readings 'Yousefian' take first place and jump up the leaderboard rankings. Reading Universities Poker Society President had already won his seat so the valuable semi-final seats went to the second and third placed finishers. That meant 'maybedeniro' from Imperial College and 'horsbox' from Newcastle University will be playing in the all important semi-finals.

We are in the process of arranging live $500 poker events for the following universities: Cardiff Uni, Bath, Kingston, Aberystwyth and Nottingham University (who managed to sign up an extra 30 players in less than 2 weeks). If you are keen on a live event at your uni spread the word to your friends as time is running out.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 9

Tuesday night's $500 freeroll saw 'spikerocker' from Nottingham University and 'TimmyJ' from Kingston University win the two available semi-final seats. With a dominant chip lead at the final table, 'spikerocker' took $135 for first place when his trip fours were too good for 'TimmyJ'. Other noticeable movement on the leaderdboard saw 'Tomlufbra' jump up to joint second place overall with his strong sixth placed finish.

We are now half way through The PKR Student Poker Tour and time is running out to bag your university a live event - make sure you get your friends onboard soon if you want PKR to come and host a live $500 poker night with a semi-final seat up for grabs...

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 8

It was another bumper night on the PKR Student Poker Tour this Tuesday with 165 players battling for glory. The University of Portsmouth's 'ncollins20' took down first place, $135 and a semi-final seat after blasting away the opposition at the final table. The second seat went to 'LoopyLou' from Kings College, London who also took $78.50 for his sterling play.

With leaderboard points ranging from 20 points for a first place finish down to one point for 20th place in each freeroll, the leaderboard is getting ever more interesting. Our current leader 'ConcreteCol' extended his lead at the top with another finish in the points. The competition is heating up for the five semi-final seats going to the top five leaderboard players who have not already won a seat. Currently that places 'murray', 'JamBGo', 'tinny', 'tomlufbra' and 'Rhysd007' in the hot seats but there's still plenty of time for that to change.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 7

Congratulations to 'kdu2121' from the University of Hertfordshire who has won the 'ultimate home game competition'. Kieran and 7 friends will be playing for £500 with the help of a professional croupier, a fridge full of beer and some lovely hostesses. The PKR Student team is very envious...

Last night saw 'BastiB' from the University of Teeside take the glory of first place, $135 and a semi-final seat. The second seat was won by 'LowriLlew' from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Another final table appearance from 'Murray' helped his chances of claiming one of the five seats available to the top leaderboard players as he jumped up to second overall, just behind our current leader 'ConcreteCol'.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 6

It was another great night of poker in Tuesday night's $500 freeroll. An epic heads-up battle between 'dwh103' from the University of Southampton and 'seancox17' from UWE Bristol took place with the lead swapping continuously. Victory was finally claimed by 'dwh103' who also took down $135 and a seat in the semi-final. UCE Birmingham's 'robertpearce03' jumped up to second place overall on the leaderboard with another impressive finish, this time coming in third. As the second and third placed finishers had already won their semi-final seats, that meant it was also a good night for 'pb338687' from Heythrop College, London who bagged a valuable semi-final place with his fourth placed finish.

Congratulations also to Cardiff this week as they became the first university to hit 50 registered players. The PKR team will be heading your way very soon, laiden with swag, to put on a live $500 poker night at your union - there will also be a valuable semi-final seat up for grabs. PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 5

This week saw 'Jayesh85' win $200 in our 'invite a friend competition'. Jayesh's name was pulled out at random and he'll also be receiving a bag of PKR swag.

Imperial College's delightfully named 'readytospew' won $135 and a semi-final seat in Tuesday night's freeroll. Second place for the second week running was 'swjake' from Southampton University which sees him jump up to - yes you guessed it - second place on the leaderboard below. As 'swjake' had already won his seat, 'Pagey44' from Cardiff University gained a seat to the semi-final which is no more than his resilient play deserved.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 4

Congratulations to Cardiff University and 'XBen7' for the victory in Tuesday night's freeroll. Ben dominated at the final table and managed to grab victory when he hit an ace on the river to beat the pocket 8's from 'SWJake' .

Both players take their place in the semi-final and with 5 places for the top placed non-qualifiers one good week can catapult you up the leaderboard. $500 was split between the top ten players in what was some top notch poker.

Competition for a live event is hotting up with the first 17 universities to reach 50 registered PKR players getting a $500 poker night hosted by us along with a semi-final seat.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 2 Results

With 85 runners and starting chip stacks increased to 2000, Tuesday nights freeroll was a hard fought affair. 'Cryptus' and 'SeanCox17' took the two semi-final seats and over $200 between them. 'Cryptus' from The University of Essex claimed victory when his pocket queens held up against an all in call from 'SeanCox17's king eight in the first hand of their heads up battle.

The top 11 players cashed and 'ConcreteCol' from Loughborough University extended his lead in the overall standings with a fourth placed finish following on from last weeks victory.

PKR Student Poker Tour - Week 1 Results

The PKR Student Poker Tour launched this week to help relieve those exam blues and 2 players have already claimed a seat in the semi-finals. Congratulations to ConcreteCol and RobertPearce03 who also took home a tidy $150 and $100 respectively. The leaderboard can be seen below and the top 8 players all placed in the money.

Congratulations to 'Sushimoto' who ran home the winner in our 3rd freeroll on the 12th Dec and took home a generous $200. Also in the money were 'Thug13' $125, 'pb338687' $75, 'rarebob' $55 and finally 'RunninFlush' won $45.

There have been two more live events this week with 70 players enduring a wet and windy Aberystwyth on Monday night followed with 50 players braving equally torrid weather conditions in Leicester on Tuesday. The weather might have been cold, but the poker was hot and both events saw some great play and plenty of money won.

Week 1 Results

It's been a great first week for PKR Student Poker with our first live event kicking off on Monday 27 November and our first $500 freeroll the day after.

PKR was on hand at Liverpool's John Moore & Halton Uni where our live tournament saw 29 runners vie for $500 dollars in prizes - talk about value! The pot was split between a very happy final table, see results below.
